Hi, I had the same issue after having to delete and reinstall the DuoLingo app. As a workaround you can connect a Google account to your DuoLingo account, so you can use SSO with Google to circumvent this issue, i.e. you log in with your Google account instead. Sadly I did not have the patience to find a good network logging tool to really find out what's happening, but if anyone has suggestions, let me know. I have access to a MacOS device, if that's necessary.
