Help/Support Need help with Lightning cable EarPods

Recently, my dad got an iPhone 7 and said I could have his EarPods because he never uses them, so I plugged it in to my iPad mini 3 (cellular) and It said "This accessory is not compatible with your device". Upon further investigation, I saw that you needed:

•A device with a lighting connector (duh)

•And iOS 10

......im on ios 9......and I will never EVER update to iOS 10 because there is no jailbreak yet and rn I have iOS 9 with a jailbreak. So, my real question is, is there like a tweak, or method to make the Lightning earpods work on an iOS 9 device? Thanks in advance
