Play the game without the back up until you can get into Sound Town. Once you get past the Networking girlie and see the blue music note on Sound Town THEN put the hack in. You should have JUST ENOUGH energy to get through everything up until then. Because you will level up at least once.

 

I hope you both will try it like that and that it works. I had the same problem as it worked when I did that.
