You're supposed to have a hosts file in /etc/hosts

 

Even if it's empty.

 

Create the file and add this content inside:

 

##
# Host Database
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
127.0.0.1    localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1      localhost 
fe80::1%lo0  localhost

Including the empty newline at the bottom.

Is host a folder or? I made a new file and inserted the text and it's not working

It's a file, make sure it has 644 permissions also.
