Same it makes you update the game, once it finishes it brings you to the game tells you "game date has been updated". Then it sends you back to start screen and making you update again over and over.

Still works for me. I've been using it since the skill hack was fixed. Maybe try downloading and patching the game first? Patches have been fine for me but that could be your guys' problem.
