I'm quite wary about how they locate spheres, but it seems due to the sheer bulk of people on the Global server the only way you get banned is if someone has reported you.  So don't use things like Sky Orbs on "public" teams such as the ones you would use on Arena or Raids where others will see the HP of your units.

 

Having said that, play smart.  Go overboard at your own peril.  Designated Arena teams and Helper units makes things much easier on you so if you've gotten caught, the wrong person has noticed the right tells on your illegal team and snitched.  Alternatively, you've gone into the Arena with your BB and HP Fill toggles up.

I only injected 10 buffer jewels, 1 forgebreaker, 1 obsidian core, then 5 celgrad gems and 5 thorn crowns. My other 2 main accounts had the same almost setup haha, That's why I was surprised that my weak account was banned
