Hello community!

I would like to request some help if possible! My friend's iPhone 6 (jailbroken on iOS 8.1) has had restarting issues and freezing springboard problems today. It would even hang at the apple boot logo. We decided it was best to restore his iPhone and upgrade to 8.4 anyways because, 8.1 is outdated lol. Before all of this though, we did install iCleaner from BigBoss repo and went to see if by clearing old cache's and etc, maybe that would solve it? So we did that and it seemed to be okay. 15 minutes later, device freezes again. So here's what we did ...

- We have tried putting the phone in recovery mode and tried to update it to iOS 8.4, but it failed.

- We tried to restore it to 8.4 but failed (error 4005 i think it was?) numerous times.

- We tried it on my Mac -- 2 different Usb ports, we tried it on his windows computer -- all 4 ports, but nothing.

- We put the phone in DFU mode, tried to restore from there on both laptops, but nothing >_<

The problem is, because his device freezes at the apple logo it seems like iTunes is failing to communicate with the device. iTunes will hang and say 'waiting for iPhone' and after 5 minutes, error 4005 comes up.

Any of you have advice on what we should do? We're thinking of just taking it to apple in the morning. Maybe they can force restore his device somehow? They can't tell that he's jailbroken through this, right? I mean, we can just say the phones' been restarting and freezing on it's own. and now it's stuck at the apple logo. Which is true anyways, because before he updated the tweaks, his phone lately has been restarting and freezing.

I'll also note, he has never updated any of his tweaks until a few hours ago and has not accessed Cydia for a long time (since school ended in May lol) until today (he's one of those people who will ignore updates until he feels like he wants to update them lol).

Any advice or tips would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

PS. We looked at semi restore as well, but he does not have openssh installed on his iPhone, and it seems like semi-restore requires that to be downloaded on the iPhone in order to use the program.

Hrmm... did you install the latest version of iTunes on your computer?

Maybe try to find a different USB cable and restore in DFU mode.

Yes, we both updated and have the latest.

Did you try Restoring it with itunes?, well obviously im assuming you want to keep the data you currently have.. try holding the home button and the Turn off button of your iphone until it restarts?

He was able to back up his stuff, so we're okay with losing data lol. But we did try that. his phone is now stuck on the 'Restore' screen (iTunes logo and lightning cable screen)

If you have restored to iOS 8.4 they cant tell it had a jailbreak on it. Just dont bring it, WHILE its jailbroken lol xD

But i thought error 4005 had something to do with iCloud back up... But im not sure

Which Windows version ure using?

Using latest iTunes?

Try using a different USB cable and restore in DFU mode.  Also, your hosts file may be corrupted.  Try this Fix it link.  It'll download an .msi which can repair your hosts file.  If that doesn't work, try doing this:

Click Start menu on desktop

Go to Control Panel

Go to Programs

Go to Programs and Features

Select Apple Mobile Device Support and click repair

Connect iPhone to computer USB (device should install automatically)

Open iTunes

When prompted, click restore iPhone

If it's still not working, let us know (y)

trying a different usb cable can do the trick, or download the ios 8.4 firmware separately and then try to restore.

He's on 8.1 right now lol. Apple should have a magic button/restore method of completely wiping a phone, right? I mean, it's Apple! lol. But, it just boots to apple logo, and stays there. 4005 is iCloud error after doing some research. We can't turn it off sadly, since the phone won't get passed the apple logo lol.

He's also using Windows 8 and the latest iTunes for Windows (we just installed it. And he left my house cause it's 4 am here and he has work at 10 am so I don't have that version number, lmao)

We tried 4 different lighting cables; mines, his, my brothers and my Dad's. No dice :(

Tried the manual restore too lol. But it hangs at the 'waiting for phone' in iTunes. Usually when you do this, the apple logo will pop up on the screen of the iPhone after leaving the restore screen, followed by a little progress bar underneath to indicate the process. But this progress bar does not show up at all when the phone leaves the restore screen. Then the 4005 error pops up and we start swearing lmao.

Ou we tried that second option ! But that didn't work :( Maybe iCleaner wiped out his host files? I told him to just click clean lol.

We'll try that first method though! I'll report back about it :)

Thanks so much guys for the tips!
