Unfortunately mine is unable to rename a packagefile. I downloaded different file manager in the playstore and not a single one that I downloaded seems to be working. The other option for me is to rename it via pc. But then again, it doesn't let me in using my google account. Hmm.

What file managart you use on your phone to rename the packagefile?

Do you use only a file manager to rename it on your phone? Cause I was using a pc to rename the file. But still didn't work

This one right? But still not working. I don't see the app overlay. I follow the process also, i rename the packagename then back to original then install apk, but no luck
